Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Giacalone.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a graduate of Louisiana State University and concentrated my studies on biological sciences. My passion for medical aesthetics began soon after college while working for one of the top plastic surgeons in Northwest Louisiana.
After becoming licensed in clinical aesthetics, I began my specialized training for Microblading in Houston, TX, and excitedly embraced my artistic side. Microblading quickly became my passion when I had the honor of treating special women and men in cancer recovery and unique cases of hormone disorders affecting hair along the brow line.
Extending my scope of practice in the micropigmentation field, I received advanced training in New York for Scalp micropigmentation at one of the top academies in the nation, ScalpMicroUSA. This allows me to serve both men and women who are suffering from thinning hair, receding hairlines, pattern baldness, Alopecia, scaring, and much more.
I founded GiacMicro & Aesthetics in 2018 and the GiacMicro Academy in 2020 and have since trained 60+ artists; two of which work for GiacMicro & Aesthetics now. I continue my training as an advanced artist and instructor to provide the best micropigmentation service in our area and spread knowledge about this special skill.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
As a new, small business owner, there are always challenges. Securing a strong foundation and physical location of the business is paramount and we, unfortunately, faced an unforeseen location shift in 2021 with very little time to move.
We are settled in our new, beautiful primary care office located in Downtown Greenville and have received nothing but amazing feedback from all of our clients on the new office. When starting the academy, I faced the same ‘new business’ challenges and learned with each class how to better approach the instruction and didactic segments.
After each course, we take the struggles each student faced in either lecture or hands-on workshops and adjust the teaching methods to better address those training needs. Every student learns in a different way, so we try to be as adaptive as possible for each new course.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a licensed aesthetician and certified micropigmentation artist, which is a form of specialized cosmetic tattooing from the jawline and above. I specialize in the Eyebrow Microblading technique and have nearly 7 years of experience, making me one of the first artists in Greenville, SC to offer this service.
My advanced coursework from prestigious academies in Houston, TX, New York, NY, and overseas has set my skill level apart to create a hyper-realistic version of the appearance of hair throughout the brow line. Using a specialized manual tool, a tiny blade is used to make small, superficial incisions in a hair pattern into the epidermis and deposit the pigment.
This unique artistry creates the appearance of a real brow line of hair, in the form of realistic hair-like strokes of pigment. As it is common to want to perfect a brow line with existing hair, many of my clients come to me who have lost their brow hair due to cancer, Alopecia, scarring, illness, and so much more.
I also offer Scalp Micropigmentation, SMP, which is another form of micropigmentation to conceal the appearance of thinning hair, balding, receding, or scarring in the scalp. While I specialize in the Microblading technique and SMP, my associate artists also perform cosmetic Eyeliner tattooing and Lip Blush tattooing as well.
Together, we make a multifaceted, comprehensive alternative to traditional, everyday makeup applications.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Greenville, SC is a very diverse scene for ethnicities, cultures, hobbies, and recreation. It gives a bigger city feel to a small town, yet keeps its charm and comfort of home. I do wish it was just a touch closer to the coast, but I’ll take the mountains just the same!
